Stock up on summertime reads

Addictive Summer Reads Event includes more than $100 in prizes: One $50 Visa Gift Card, one $15 Amazon Gift Card, 5 $10 Amazon Gift Cards: http://www.addictivereads.com/events/summer-2014/

Do you love reading? I sure do. And it seems like I can’t ever have enough books on hand to read.

I've been stocking up on books to read since… oh, since I was in grade school… but I'm of the mindset that you can never have too few books waiting to be read. I'm not ashamed to admit that book hoarding runs in my family. My mother has a chest brimming with books-to-be-read in her bedroom (it used to be her mother's hope chest and now it's a book chest) and another shelf in her spare room. My grandparents had a bookshelf filled with paperbacks on their outdoor patio – perhaps not the most ideal storage place for a library, but it worked for them. My mom has passed hundreds of books from my childhood back to me to enjoyed by my own children, and they fill a few shelves and boxes in my house. My own paper books-to-be-read teeter in stacks inside what used to be a television stand that now rests beside my bed – a makeshift nightstand. And of course my e-book collection is ever-growing. I'm book-rich… and I keep acquiring more reads.

Have a similar addiction? Then you're in luck. Us Addictive Reads authors are running a summertime sale over the weekend. Stock up on some great reads and get addicted to some fabulous authors. Here are the sale details: http://www.addictivereads.com/events/summer-2014/ And while you're checking out books to read, enter the contest to win some of the fantastic prizes, including a $50 Visa Gift Card or one of six Amazon gift cards!

Witch Hunt: published in Carolina Crimes

Got an exciting announcement: My short story Witch Hunt is included in Carolina Crimes: 19 Tales of Lust, Love and Longing, published by Wildside Press LLC.

Witch Hunt is very different from the stories in my Jade O'Reilly mystery series. Witch Hunt is about what happens when a store selling risque merchandise burns in a small southern downtown. (Hint: More than edible lingerie goes up in flames.)

Here's the description of the collection:

What goes together like tea & sympathy, rock & roll, or a skull & crossbones? Sex & crime. Nineteen members of Sisters in Crime living in the Carolinas serve up stories around the universal themes of lust, love, and longing, and the criminal consequences of thwarting these human desires. Some stories are laugh-out-loud funny, others are evilly dark, but each packs a delicious read. Whether set in an ice cream parlor or an equestrian center, from World War II Washington DC to the high-tech playing fields of Research Triangle Park, furious, desperate, and betrayed characters step into crime with barely a twinge of misgiving. Frisky seniors, a psychic PI, a jealous mother-in-law, a manipulative stripper—all occupy a universe where, as Margaret Maron writes in the Introduction, “Love can liberate, love can suffocate, and sometimes love can even lead to murder.”

Upcoming event at Eva Perry Library

I'm very excited to be included in an author panel at Eva Perry Regional Library in Apex, NC, Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. I'll be joining authors Carolyn Booth, Bill Floyd, Peggy Payne, and Barbara White. I'm told that talk will touch on what it means to be a Southern, and how living here affects our writing. Q&A from the audience will follow. Hope to see you there!

Visiting author Candace Austin's blog today

Hi, everyone! I'm visiting author Candace Austin's blog. Her debut novel, The Layers, is a fantastic read with the premise that many people have lived past lives... and remember them. So she asked me who I would have been, if I'd lived a past life, as well as who my main character would have been.
