Just released: new novel & short story

I'm so excited to announce the publication of a new Jade O'Reilly novel and short story! Here are the details:

Concealed Suspicions A Jade O'Reilly Mystery

What begins as a white-collar crime investigation soon becomes deadly complicated with private investigator Jade O’Reilly on the scene.

Trouble arises when Benton Rowe, one of coastal North Carolina’s most successful businessmen and eligible bachelors, finds a local store selling embezzled merchandise from one of his shipping companies. Benton bypasses the police to find the embezzler his own way. He hires Jade to work undercover from inside his company to solve the crime.

Jade sees the case as the ideal cover to dig into Benton’s possible involvement in her father’s death. As Jade is swept into Benton’s world of penthouse apartments and fancy yachts, her boyfriend, Keith, isn’t as thrilled with Jade’s assignment. Nor are the thuggish members of Benton’s security team, one of whom appears as suspicious of Jade as she is of him. Will Jade get to the bottom of the embezzlement at Benton’s shipping industry and find dirt on Benton before she’s permanently exported?

Concealed Suspicions is the third novel in the Jade O’Reilly Mystery series by bestselling mystery author Tamara Ward.

Jade O'Reilly and the Luck of the Irish(A Sweetwater Short)

If luck is a lady, she's certainly not private investigator Jade O'Reilly. When Jade is late to work, she's punished by being assigned what may be an unsolvable case: find a missing four-leaf-clover good-luck charm before the town's St. Patrick's Day Festival. With an Irish cooking competition deadline bearing down, Jade chases clover clues while searching for the owner of a troublesome black cat that visits Jade's apartment to torture her on a nightly basis. Jade also is determined to pinpoint where her brother is spending his mornings and evenings—because it's not at his house with his wife and son who claims that "Daddy's got a secret." It's lucky uncovering secrets is Jade's specialty, even if luck itself is not.

Grumpy Valentine's Day to you!

Included in Escape into Romance
Roses are red. Violets are blue.
I love writing books. I hope you like reading them, too!

Look, it's been one of those weeks: death in the family, trying to get a novel and a short story out the door, busy job, extremely slim hope of getting a date on Valentine's Day 'cuz my husband just isn't that type, blah, blah blah. Then I wake up this morning and realize... I was supposed to have published a blog about my top five Valentine's Day gifts. I'd settle for just a date to the local Mexican restaurant...

Time is precious, folks, and it is fleeting, and time spent with the ones you love is never wasted.

That being said, this is life, or it's my life, or it's this stage in my life, and as crazy and date-less as it may be at the moment, I'm content, as odd as that may sound. So, while I could dream up exotic dream-dates involving romantic destinations and air smelling of flowers, or blingy gifts that dazzle the eye (or chocolate gifts that delight the stomach), I'm not going to. Because I am, in a sense, living the dream: happy, healthy children; fantastic, loving husband; indoor dog hanging around my ankles; good job; plenty to eat in the cupboard, even if it's not all chocolate... and that's just in this temporary world. Okay... I'm starting to go off the deep end if I haven't flailed off already...

So happy Friday the 13th, and I hope your Valentines Day includes a dream/romantic date and/or gifts of flowers and chocolates, and fat flying babies circling your head and shooting arrows. I'm off to brush through my fly-aways and make sure the boys are clothed and have run a toothbrush across their teeth before dashing out the door to work...

And, just in time for Valentine's Day, Addictive Reads Escape into Romance is only $.99 in all formats, available at Smashwords. Escape Into Romance with the Addictive Reads 11-author / 11-book / 2,000+ page contemporary box set, a $27.28 value, most written by best-selling and award-winning authors. Join our lovers as they overcome adversity and, through the power of love, find their happily ever after.

A few of my favorite things

Welcome to the Addictive Reads Holiday Giveaway! From December 12-31, you've got the chance to enter the contest for prizes: a Kindle Fire HD 7, and $50, $20 and $15 gift cards to Amazon, iTunes, GooglePlay or Barnes & Noble (if you win, you choose where the gift certificate comes from). Visit for details.

In the meantime, I get to blog about a few of my favorite things at this time of the year...

1. One of my favorite ornaments (far left). I don't know where this humble fellow came from, but s/he is so homely, I can't help but love him/her... er... it. Plus, the ornament doesn't make me cry like the cast ornaments of my sons' hands and feet from when they were babies.

2. A nativity set my husband and I picked up from Mexico on our honeymoon.

3. Hot cocoa with marshmallows.

4. Pajamas just out of the dryer.

5. A real fire in a real fireplace.

6. Favorite Christmastime reads. The Grinch, the Polar Express, Prayer for Owen Meaney... And even some of my writing pals' reads. Check out The Winter Gift at your favorite ebook store (it's free: Merry Christmas). The boxed set includes a bunch of winter-y stories, including one of my own. But if you'd rather listen than read, check out Jade O'Reilly and the 12 Days of Christmas, now on audio thanks to the very talented Julie Hoverson.

Stock up on summertime reads

Addictive Summer Reads Event includes more than $100 in prizes: One $50 Visa Gift Card, one $15 Amazon Gift Card, 5 $10 Amazon Gift Cards:

Do you love reading? I sure do. And it seems like I can’t ever have enough books on hand to read.

I've been stocking up on books to read since… oh, since I was in grade school… but I'm of the mindset that you can never have too few books waiting to be read. I'm not ashamed to admit that book hoarding runs in my family. My mother has a chest brimming with books-to-be-read in her bedroom (it used to be her mother's hope chest and now it's a book chest) and another shelf in her spare room. My grandparents had a bookshelf filled with paperbacks on their outdoor patio – perhaps not the most ideal storage place for a library, but it worked for them. My mom has passed hundreds of books from my childhood back to me to enjoyed by my own children, and they fill a few shelves and boxes in my house. My own paper books-to-be-read teeter in stacks inside what used to be a television stand that now rests beside my bed – a makeshift nightstand. And of course my e-book collection is ever-growing. I'm book-rich… and I keep acquiring more reads.

Have a similar addiction? Then you're in luck. Us Addictive Reads authors are running a summertime sale over the weekend. Stock up on some great reads and get addicted to some fabulous authors. Here are the sale details: And while you're checking out books to read, enter the contest to win some of the fantastic prizes, including a $50 Visa Gift Card or one of six Amazon gift cards!

Witch Hunt: published in Carolina Crimes

Got an exciting announcement: My short story Witch Hunt is included in Carolina Crimes: 19 Tales of Lust, Love and Longing, published by Wildside Press LLC.

Witch Hunt is very different from the stories in my Jade O'Reilly mystery series. Witch Hunt is about what happens when a store selling risque merchandise burns in a small southern downtown. (Hint: More than edible lingerie goes up in flames.)

Here's the description of the collection:

What goes together like tea & sympathy, rock & roll, or a skull & crossbones? Sex & crime. Nineteen members of Sisters in Crime living in the Carolinas serve up stories around the universal themes of lust, love, and longing, and the criminal consequences of thwarting these human desires. Some stories are laugh-out-loud funny, others are evilly dark, but each packs a delicious read. Whether set in an ice cream parlor or an equestrian center, from World War II Washington DC to the high-tech playing fields of Research Triangle Park, furious, desperate, and betrayed characters step into crime with barely a twinge of misgiving. Frisky seniors, a psychic PI, a jealous mother-in-law, a manipulative stripper—all occupy a universe where, as Margaret Maron writes in the Introduction, “Love can liberate, love can suffocate, and sometimes love can even lead to murder.”

I'm very excited to be included in an author panel at Eva Perry Regional Library in Apex, NC, Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. I'll be joining authors Carolyn Booth, Bill Floyd, Peggy Payne, and Barbara White. I'm told that talk will touch on what it means to be a Southern, and how living here affects our writing. Q&A from the audience will follow. Hope to see you there!
